Among the teams that have unexpectedly risen to the top of a division or conference through week six, Arizona — in the Pac-12 South — seems to have more staying power and has accomplished more to attain its presently lofty perch. Keep this in mind about Arizona football, though: This is the only member of the original Pac-10 (it joined what had been the Pacific-8 in 1978) to have never made the Rose Bowl. Novembers and late Octobers have crushed this team in the past. If Rich Rodriguez can get to Pasadena, his reputation in the coaching community will be forever transformed. Arizona is certainly a program to watch over the next few weeks, as it tries to shed a history of almost unceasing misery.

Is Arizona Now In The National Championship Race? Yes It Is

Thanks to its potent offense and some timely plays from its defense, Arizona defeated Oregon 31-24, propelling it into the national championship race. Make no mistake about it: the Wildcats were the better team Thursday night. Yes, UA trailed 7-3 at the half, but with the way their offense was moving the ball, it was […]

Dreadful Offensive Numbers Forced Kansas to Fire Charlie Weis

Kansas football did what it had to Sunday, firing Charlie Weis just into his third season as head coach. Why Make the Change Now? Make no mistake about it: this is something KU had to do right now. Sure, it’s usually not a good thing for a program to terminate its coach in the middle […]

Few coaches are going to face as much withering pressure next season as USC’s Steve Sarkisian. Anything less than a Pac-12 South title will be an unquestioned and absolute failure. The lack of a Pac-12 championship — with Oregon no longer having Marcus Mariota — would be a modest disappointment at the very least. Sark can’t squander the considerable talent he’s stockpiled in L.A.

Just one week after a poor showing against Nebraska, the […]
