The Student Section’s Pick Six

In what other walks of life do we tell other people what they should or shouldn’t do as far as their livelihood is concerned? The answer, outside politics and sports, happen to be no other people. Yet, because opinions, everyone — and their respective mothers — wants to chime in on everything Leonard Fournette. So, yes, it will be a heavy dose of Fournette’s future rests in the hands of other people linkage today. Onto the links, my friends.

College Football

Christine Brennan uses the tried and true approach of saying that college football players are not college basketball players. These are things we all know, yet are continued to be used as an example as to why the years removed from high school to enter the NFL Draft must be set at three.

On the opposite side of the coin, however, we have websites creating fake lawyers. No. Not so he could turn pro. That would be silly. Instead, it is for the other players throughout the country Fournette has victimized.

The NCAA gets a victory in their refusal to pay players (their worth). This is a wickedly complicated issue, but folks will use this one court ruling to make demonstrative statements either way.

Kevin McGuire says something that I think many people are thinking, yet refuse to acknowledge. This piece is well worth your time — even if it discussed why college football might be wasting yours.

Another Kevin McGuire piece because America loves him. Well, to be honest, it is so all sides of this weird, and often times not all that important, discussion on Christian Hackenberg can be touched on. McGuire talks about Hack’s future as far as maybe transferring, while shifting blame towards the coaches for his inability to develop, all while people continue to not hold him all that accountable for his mistakes (obviously, we know where I stand on this topic).

Some of us at The Student Section participated in a roundtable discussion dealing with the court’s backing of the NCAA. We, um… none of us seem to agree on anything. Not only because I am in it, but it is worth a look.

Extra Point

The world can often times be a very scary place. Here is yet another example of how quickly things can turn from bad to worse.

College Basketball

Sports Illustrated’s Alexander Wolff has a very interesting column on abusive coaches. The crux of the entire piece is his wondering if their time has met an end. I hope so. Then again, we aren’t that far removed from Billy Gillispie being a crazy person, Mike Rice being a crazy person, and whatever other numbers of coaches continuing to be crazy, yet still having jobs at major programs.

Brian Mull is already getting you prepped for some madness come March. See who he thinks will be five of the surprise teams of the season.

I mentioned this before, but it is worth mentioning again. CBT is about the best around at doing preseason work. This time, Raphielle Johnson lets us know which college coaches are set up to succeed and which are going to fail through no fault of their own.

The SMU story continues to dominate the Internet. There are causalities from the postseason ban. You know, the players suffering the wrath because of other people’s mistakes.

Every year we do this. Every year we click on the link. I guess it is because it is fun to see where our favorite programs rank. Cody Williams ranks the 30 toughest places to play.

And One

I could link to this every single day of my life. Well, at least until it comes out. To be honest, when I was younger I was secretly hoping they would contact me to help them rewrite the script. If you are a fan of video games, and love good stories, this is about as good as it can get for any of us. Yeah, it has been out there for awhile, but we need a palette cleanser after some of the links today.
