Kansas and Oklahoma Have First No. 1 vs. No. 2 Matchup In Big 12 Basketball History

College basketball is about to partake in another week with a new No. 1 team atop the AP Top-25 poll, as the Michigan State Spartans fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes without Denzel Valentine who is still out due to injury.

With the Kansas Jayhawks likely moving up from their No. 2 spot to college basketball’s new No. 1 team and the Oklahoma Sooners likely moving up from their No. 3 spot to the No. 2 position, Monday night will provide a Big 12 matchup that pins together the top two teams in the sport.

Not a bad way to start off the week.

The Sooners’ season improved with its first conference test, defeating the ranked Iowa State Cyclones by four points at home at the Lloyd Noble Center this past Saturday. The Jayhawks made quick work of a 10-2 Baylor Bears team (now 10-3), leading by double-digits for the majority of the contest en route to a 28-point home win.

When the No. 1 Jayhawks and the No. 2 Sooners square off on Monday night at Allen Fieldhouse, it will be the second most expensive college basketball tickets on the secondary market this week. Tickets to see the Sooners face the Jayhawks has an average price of $349.74 with a get-in price of $121. Tickets to the game on the secondary market have increased as it nears tipoff. On Sunday, January 3rd the average ticket price was $268.03 and has nearly increased $100 in the latest 24-hour period.

According to TotallyTickets.com, the only game more expensive this week is on January 9th when Iowa State hosts Baylor at Hilton Coliseum with an average ticket price of $496.96 with a get-in price of $468.

The ACC and Pac-12 show up in the third and fourth spots respectively for the most expensive games and their information are posted below:

1/7/2016 | UCLA Bruins vs. Arizona Wildcats | Pauley Pavilion | Average Price: $180.41 | Get-in Price: $46

The matchup between Oklahoma and Kansas will be the first-ever No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup within the Big 12 conference.  It happened twice in 1990 when the conference was named The Big Eight.
