The ideal college football schedule: week 13

It was a real pain in the posterior last Saturday to watch all those 3:30 (Eastern time) games, imbued with considerable significance. Oh, I watched them, but I didn’t get to catch nearly as much of them as I wanted. Thankfully, Oregon blew out USC and Ole Miss crushed LSU, thinning out the slate of […]

TCU coach Gary Patterson argues for an expanded playoff

With his team destined to land outside the four-team College Football Playoff for the second consecutive year, TCU coach Gary Patterson is, naturally, campaigning for a bigger playoff. “I’m not going to be a person who’s going to be an advocate of the four after this season,” Patterson said at a press conference Tuesday. “I […]

20 for 20: week 12

The box score of the week has to go to Michigan State-Ohio State… not because of the result itself, but because a team which passed for just 91 yards so thoroughly dominated the game and overcame two seven-point turnovers… on the road… against the defending national champions. Here’s the rest of what we found in […]

What the past weekend in the AAC taught us about the Big Ten-SEC Challenge

Last week, my colleague Bart Doan had some fun with Bret Bielema’s idea of a Big Ten-SEC Challenge. I reacted inwardly on a few levels. First, I think the idea is great. The more high-profile non-conference games in college football, the better. Second, if any two conferences do not need to participate in a challenge […]

The B1G Uglies – Which Division Leader Might Stumble?

Three writers that can’t quite agree on anything are ready to sling mud at one another once again in a three part weekly roundtable after a way too long hiatus.. It’s time for Phil Harrison, Bart Doan, and Terry Johnson to solve the world’s problems one first down at a time in the heartland. It’s […]

2015 TSS Heisman Poll, week 12

Leonard Fournette was at the front of the pack for the majority of the season. Three straight losses have put Fournette out of the Heisman picture. Ezekiel Elliott was a name that circulated in Heisman circles for most of the off-season. He stuck around in our top five for the majority of the season. A […]

What the CFB Playoff Committee Screwed Up This Week

Just to reiterate the rules: No, the author does not watch the show because it’s nothing but a cheap ratings grab passed off as some attempt at transparency. So anything said on the show to justify the rankings is not taken into account. Just because you spray yourself with cologne to cover up the smell […]

Four College Football Thoughts, November 24

Your weekly “things to rant about in college football that aren’t worth a full column” is here. Do enjoy. 1. The pressure never fails to show up “Under Pressure” is without question my favorite Queen song, and one of the best lines in it is “Insanity laughs under pressure we’re cracking.” Every year, we look […]

What the Selection Committee Taught Us: Week 12

As always, there was a ton of immediate outrage with the newest committee rankings on social media, but they seem to have shown more consistency overall than they usually do. Let’s start with the talking points at the top and work our way down. First of all, Oklahoma at No. 3 is the first major […]

Wisconsin Badgers fan sends unique protest to Madison PD

Wisconsin Badgers fans have earned a reputation as a fun-loving, passionate, and hard-drinking bunch. Apparently they also have a sense of humor and some deep pocket books. One UW fan found a unique way of protesting his expulsion from Camp Randall Stadium this past weekend, sending the Madison police department 20 dozen coconut donuts on […]

ACC schools find themselves in major financial trouble

Modern day college athletics is more about money than it has ever been about before. Conference expansion, television deals and network creation are all about the eyeballs and money that can be added to the conference coffers. The SEC and Big Ten lead the revenue side of big-time college athletics, and the ACC wasn’t supposed […]

The B1G Uglies – Hot Potato Topics in Big Ten Football

Three writers that can’t quite agree on anything are ready to sling mud at one another once again in a three part weekly roundtable after a way too long hiatus. The topic? Ohio State. It’s time for Phil Harrison, Bart Doan, and Terry Johnson to solve the world’s problems one first down at a time […]

Coaching carousel plot twists: week 12

It’s just about time to spin the coaching carousel, and surely, even more names will be added to the list as other coaches get fired in the coming weeks. One coach — on the verge of losing his job — just might have rescued himself. At the very least, he gave himself the opportunity to […]

If the conferences are given autonomy in their ability to stage championship games, we could see the end of split-division conferences. We could also see conferences decide to make the conference title game a flex-game entity in which the conference champion might not play in it. For instance, the Big Ten could have chosen this year (under a liberalized structure) to anoint Ohio State as its champion. The conference title game slot this Saturday could have beloned to Michigan State and Wisconsin, the second- and third-place teams. Ohio State would love the ability to rest and heal for the bowls. Michigan State and Wisconsin could gain a quality win. Shouldn’t conferences have the freedom to be able to do this? They might… if legislation makes its way through an NCAA board in April.

Ohio State vs Michigan: Everything You Need to Know About “The Game”

Ohio State. Michigan. You can’t think of one program without having visions of the other flash across your memory of tapestry. The Yankees are more of a cultural icon because of the Red Sox, Ali is a legend largely because of Frazier, and Duke and North Carolina have a mystique linked together with emotion and […]
