Notes and Observations
- As always, remember that these rankings are fluid and will usually change from week to week.
- While our voters didn’t agree on much, we all listed North Dakota State as the No. 1 team in country for the second straight week. Eastern Washington was a unanimous selection at No. 2.
- After that, our panel didn’t agree on much. Albany, Charleston Southern, Cal Poly, and Sam Houston State each received third-place votes, but did not finish higher than sixth in our rankings.
- Western Illinois went from unranked to No. 3 this week, after defeating Northern Illinois 28-23. The Leatherneck defense came up huge in the fourth quarter, stopping NIU twice on downs inside the Western 20-yard line.
- Cal Poly also entered the rankings at No. 6 this week after beating Montana 42-41. The Grizzlies dropped from No. 3 to No. 9.
- Even though Richmond beat Colgate 38-31, the Spiders dropped out of the rankings this week. Northern Iowa — which was off this weekend — also fell out.
