Notes and Observations
- As always, remember that these rankings are fluid, and will change from week-to-week.
- Even though North Dakota State lost to South Dakota State, the Bison remain in the top spot this week. The prevailing sentiment amongst our panel is that North Dakota has more quality wins than anyone else, so they deserve the No. 1 ranking… for now.
- With that said, Eastern Washington and Sam Houston State each received a first-place vote.
- By virtue of its win over North Dakota State, South Dakota State made the biggest jump in the rankings this week, moving from “also receiving votes” all the way to No. 4. The Jackrabbits will face another stiff test this weekend against Youngstown State, which is ranked No. 9 in our poll.
- Although we agreed (for the most part) on the top four teams, we were split on teams 5-10. Ten different teams received consideration for the final six spots.
- Jacksonville State was the most polarizing team in this weekend’s rankings. The Gamecocks were ranked as high as No. 2 on one ballot, but were not listed on another.
- James Madison was listed as high as No. 5 on a couple of ballots, but were completely left off on another. The Dukes can remove all doubt with a win against No. 7 Richmond on Nov. 5.
