Notes and Observations

  • As always, remember that this poll is fluid and will change from week-to-week.
  • Nothing changed the top of the poll. Everyone save Associate Editor Terry Johnson cast their first place vote for Alabama. Terry voted for Florida State.
  • Yes, we counted Oklahoma State’s contest versus Central Michigan as a loss. While it’ll be interesting to see how the Selection Committee views that game in light of the controversial ending, it goes down as a loss in our book, which is why the Cowboys fell out of the rankings this week.
  • Clemson fell from a third-place tie all the way down to No. 6. Both Ohio State and Michigan moved up a spot after decisive victories this weekend.
  • Despite it’s win over Jacksonville State, LSU dropped out of the rankings after finishing 15th the week before. Yet, that’s not an indictment of Tigers, as much as it is crediting Arkansas for it’s impressive victory over TCU. The Hogs enter the poll in a three-way tie at No. 14.
  • Michigan State also missed the cut this week after being idle this weekend. However, Sparty will have no trouble re-entering the rankings with a big win over Notre Dame this weekend.
