Notes and Observations

  • As always, remember that these rankings are fluid, and will change from week-to-week until all of the games are in the books.
  • Alabama took over sole possession of the top spot with its impressive victory over Arkansas this weekend. The Tide also picked up an additional first-place vote, which is why they were able to break the tie with Clemson.
  • Washington moved up to No. 3 this week after throttling Oregon 70-21. The Huskies also received a first-place vote.
  • Although Ohio State dropped to No. 4, the Buckeyes can move back up in the rankings this weekend with a win over Wisconsin. The Badgers moved up to No. 8, after Houston and Tennessee lost last weekend.
  • Our panel didn’t punish the Cougars and Vols for close losses, as the teams are currently ranked 10th and 13th, respectively.
  • Thanks to a 34-3 victory over North Carolina, Virginia Tech debuts at No. 15 in this week’s poll. The Hokies look like the team to beat in the ACC Coastal Division right now.
  • Nebraska remains the most polarizing team in our standings. One voter had the Huskers ranked No. 8, while two others omitted them from the rankings altogether. This weekend’s contest with Indiana could provide some clarity about how good Nebraska really is this fall.
