Now that week 8 is in the books, the college football season is literally halfway over. Last weekend provided a few shockers, as well as a couple of eye-opening experiences.

Notes and Observations
- As always, please note that these standings are fluid, and will change from week-to-week.
- Alabama remains in the top spot after its convincing win over Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide received 63 out of a possible 64 points in this week’s vote.
- In case you’re wondering, “what idiot listed the Crimson Tide at No. 2?”, it was Terry Johnson, who listed the Huskies as the top team in the country. He made the case for Washington last week. However, the Huskies will have their hands full with Utah this weekend, which proved it was ready for Washington in its victory over UCLA.
- After its shocking loss to Penn State last week, Ohio State dropped from No. 2 to No. 6. While many will argue that the Buckeyes should have fallen further, it’s worth noting that they’ve beaten Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Our panel choice to reward them for playing — and beating — quality opponents.
- Nebraska is still the most polarizing team in the poll, appearing as high as No. 6 one ballot, while failing to receive a vote on another. The Huskers can change that outcome with a victory over Wisconsin this weekend in the de facto Big Ten West championship game.
- LSU returned to the rankings this week, re-entering the poll tied for 15th. Although the Tigers already have two losses, don’t be surprised if they end up in the College Football Playoff.
- Houston fell out of the rankings as result of its surprising loss to SMU. With the Cougars clearly out of the AAC race, we’ll never know whether the CFP would have placed a “mid-major” in the bracket.
