CFB playoff committee needs to show spine and punish losses, no matter where they happen

Michigan State just went into Alabama and got it handed to them, losing by two touchdowns and not gaining 200 yards in the process. It was the Spartans’ first loss this season after trucking teams on the ground through the previous two months. Alabama isn’t “teams,” though. The Crimson Tide rolled up 434 yards in […]

With a number of big games on the docket, this weekend’s action was easily the most exciting of the season so far. Here are five things we learned from week 10: 5. The Baylor offense will be fine under the leadership of quarterback Jarrett Stidham. Yes, I was pretty sure that this would be the […]

Alabama Demolishes LSU, Vaults into SEC West Lead

When the initial College Football Playoff rankings came out, everyone had an opinion about Alabama being in the top four. Some felt the Tide deserved their No. 4 ranking, while others complained that their inclusion was just another example of SEC bias. I took a completely different approach. Rather than address the rankings — which […]

Thoughts, Observations, and Things To Watch For in Week 10

This is the weekend we’ve all been waiting for, featuring four games that will have an impact on the College Football Playoff race. Here’s a list of thoughts, observations, and things to watch for in week 10. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, please ignore the College Football Playoff rankings. Until the […]

Urban Meyer, a superstar head coach and a national figure in college football, spoke at Big Ten Media Days on Monday in Chicago. Big Ten Network did not provide live coverage of his session with the media. ESPN deserves plenty of criticism for how it elevates the SEC and undercuts the levels of exposure it gives to conferences such as the ACC and Big 12. However, when BTN can’t provide live coverage of Meyer, Mark Dantonio, and the coaches of its other big-name programs, the collection of factors that feed into conference bias becomes a lot more complicated. It’s not just about ESPN loving the SEC too much; it’s about BTN and Pac-12 Networks being markedly inadequate when covering their own conferences. Conference bias is, in other words, a two-way street and a multi-source problem. ESPN’s competitors have to do a better job.

Ole Miss and your (realistic) SEC Doomsday Scenario

How do the kids say it these days? If you’re an SEC “hater,” Ole Miss just became your favorite team. Throughout the Rebels’ exsanguination of Texas A&M Saturday evening, one had to watch, mouth agape, thinking, “Where the heck has this been since they defeated Alabama?” Ole Miss displayed its best self, a collection of […]

Behind an outstanding effort from its defense, Alabama thrashed Texas A&M, 41-23, to extend its record to 6-1. The victory also proved that the Crimson Tide will belong in the College Football Playoff if they are to win out. Make no mistake about it: this was an excellent performance from the Alabama defense.
