Earlier this off-season we told you that Utah State QB Darell Garretson would transfer. Well, it appears that Everett Golson is not the only sought after QB as Garretson will reportedly land with a Power 5 school.
Darell Garretson is transferring to Oregon State, the former Utah State quarterback told The Oregonian on Monday.
Garretson, who received his release papers from the Aggies in early April, plans to arrive in Corvallis this summer. After sitting out a year under NCAA transfer rules, he will have two seasons of eligibility beginning in 2016.
The 6-foot, 200-pound junior expects to walk on with hopes of eventually competing for a scholarship. His decision to join the Beavers came after the Aggies reportedly blocked his transfer to Washington, which hosts Utah State in September. Outside of the Huskies and OSU, Garretson said he received interest from multiple FCS programs.
A couple of interesting notes.
– Unlike Golson, Garretson will not be immediately eligible.
– Garretson will be walking-on. He completed 67% of his passes last year with 8 TD to 3 INT. My guess is this is more of a preferred walk-on spot. With the Beavers QB position in question, he should be in play to start in 2016.
– Garretson will have two years of eligibility left so if he does win the job in 2016, he will have some time to make his mark in Corvallis.
