This is what Les Miles must feel like when his team averages at least four yards per carry in a game. No team has a higher winning percentage in such games since the 2005 FBS season.

Les Miles Messes With Texas

At SEC Media Days on Wednesday, LSU head coach Les Miles — one of the foremost media stars in the conference — took the podium and gave a relatively bland presentation. Yet, even a quiet afternoon by The Hat’s standards still provides a few choice quotes, and this was no exception. The clear highlight of this particular day was Miles’s assessment of a recent family vacation in Austin, Tex.

One of college football’s best and most imaginative chroniclers quickly came up with an inspired SEC Network programming idea:

On the serious side, Miles was asked multiple questions about his team’s season opener against Wisconsin, a neutral-site game in Houston. LSU’s presence in the state of Texas as a recruiting force is something that became more of an issue when Texas A&M moved to the SEC. This need — recruiting well in Texas — will continue to retain a considerable degree of importance for LSU and other SEC schools. This is why beating Wisconsin carries value for LSU, regardless of larger considerations such as making the College Football Playoff.

Les Miles and his relationships with the state of Texas defined his SEC Media Days appearance.
