Oregon State opens up spring practices today, and they will do so with a new helmet design. Well, actually, it is an old helmet design that is making a return.
Oregon State has worn a similar helmet design in the past. In the 1970s they wore this design on an orange helmet and in the 1980s used this design on a white helmet. The concept carried over into the 1990s with a black helmet but the Beaver logo was added on top of the scripted “Beavers.” Now the beaver has been removed, embracing Oregon State’s past helmet designs. This does not mean Oregon State will avoid dabbling in some alternate helmets during the fall, but for now it is good to see the program embrace its history with a simple signature look. I applaud that.
