Summer Reading: Consistency Of Punishment

With the announcement from Auburn coach Gus Malzahn that quarterback Nick Marshall will not start the season opener against Arkansas, the topic of internal discipline has once again emerged on the college football web. No, this is hardly the only instance of a player doing something unwise over the course of the summer, but Marshall is the returning quarterback on the SEC’s reigning championship team, the team that came within a whisker of winning the 2013 national title. He has focused this issue in ways other players wouldn’t… and haven’t.

One of the more thought-provoking reads on this topic comes from Joseph Nardone at College Football Huddle.  The essential quote from the piece: “A uniform disciplinary structure is all college sports really needs.”
