We don’t cover recruiting very much, but sometimes there are things that happen in the world of recruiting that are hard to ignore.
Verbal commitments aren’t set in stone but yesterday new head coach Tom Herman and the Houston Cougars got one from the number two ranked player in the state of Texas. 5-Star DT Ed Oliver chose the Cougars over other in-state powers Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and TCU. He also held offers from Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and UCLA. According to 247 Sports, he’s ranked as the 13th overall prospect in the class of 2016.
How big is this for the Cougars? According to 247 Sports database, which rates players all the way back to 2002, this is the first five-star recruit they’ve had. The closest was Deontay Greenberry, who rated four-stars as a recruit in 2012.
Is the landscape about to change in Houston?
