William & Mary Advance to CAA Final with Dramatic Shot in Game of the Year Candidate

The very lengthy headline isn’t quite enough praise on what was a truly fantastic game in the CAA tournament. Top seed William & Mary was pushed to the extreme limit by 5th seeded Hofstra. The game went into double overtime with both teams making huge plays, but none at the buzzers of regulation or the first OT. With Hofstra up 2, this play happened.

That’s a huge shot by Daniel Dixon for the lead. That’s a great pass by Marcus Thronton on what could have easily been a hero ball shot. Dixon only had 7 points, but obviously none bigger. Thronton was a star with 37 points, 6 boards and 2 assists. He only had 2 assists and the second was perfectly timed.

What a game this was. The small conference tournaments may not have the same style of play as the major conference games, but they do have the drama, the passion, the fight because the next loss is the end of the season. Unfortunately for Hofstra, their great effort came up short. William & Mary has a chance at it’s first NCAA bid tomorrow night against Northeastern or UNC Wilmington.
