WWII Veteran, 89, Scores Long TD in Kansas Alumni Contest

Watch as Bryan Sperry, an 89-year-old veteran of World War II, catches a short pass and takes it to the house during Saturday’s Kansas Alumni Flag Football contest.

It isn’t quite like watching Gale Sayers, but a neat story nonetheless. According to the Kansas City Star, Sperry’s college career started at Kansas State, but was cut short to serve as an infantryman in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he attended Kansas and played for the rival Jayhawks. Sperry was a member of the 1947 team that reached the Orange Bowl.
