Red River Rivalry Tickets Bounce Back After Two-Year Dip On Secondary Market

The Red River Shootout between Oklahoma and Texas is a staple matchup of the college football season, and more specifically, the Big 12 conference. Most seasons, the game is equally important to both the Sooners and Longhorns, as the traditionally powerful programs duel it out for a leg up in the conference standings, but this season, one team has way more to lose than the other.

The Sooners have their sights set on one of the four College Football Playoffs spots that are available at the end of the season. After taking their cupcake opener against Akron, the Sooners earned a tough overtime road win at Tennessee before dropping 52 points on Tulsa in a 14-point victory and opening up Big 12 play with a 20-point win against West Virginia.

As for Texas, the supporters and followers of the team are wondering when the rebuilding process will end. The Longhorns have had five games and have played quality opponents in four of them, unfortunately leading to four defeats. After losing by 35 points to Notre Dame, Texas picked up their first win of the season over Rice by 14 points. A new losing streak of three games began by losing in heartbreaking fashion to California by a missed extra point, losing by three points to Oklahoma State thanks to a shanked punt in the closing moments, and then being routed by No. 4-ranked TCU by 43 points.

So Texas plays their fourth quality opponent in a row and is desperate for a win, while Oklahoma tries to keep up in the National Championship picture. It’s another installation of the Red River Shootout, which occurs on Saturday, October 10, at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

This game is at its apex when both teams are vying for a Big 12 championship, but that isn’t the case this year. Of the last five games between Oklahoma and Texas, tickets on the secondary market for this year’s affair sit in the middle, ranking third, according to TotallyTickets.com.

Oklahoma Sooners tickets are back on the rise compared to the last two seasons, which has the two lowest average ticket prices in the past five years. For this game to see prices like it used to back in 2011 and 2012, Texas will have to rise back to national prominence with a winning season or two, or perhaps flirt with the idea of being in contention for more than a poorly-named bowl game.
