The AP Top 25 had its first real shake up in a couple of weeks after two teams from the top-10 fell on Saturday as the committee prepares for the first round of voting for the College Football Playoff.
The No. 3 Utah Utes were run out of the Coliseum by a jacked up USC Trojans team that executed from the first to the final snap. Middle linebacker Cameron Smith had three interceptions of Utah quarterback Travis Wilson, including one returned for a touchdown en route to a 42-24 win. The Trojans moved to 4-3 overall while Utah’s first loss brought them from No. 3 to No. 13 in the AP Poll.
The most heartbreaking result of the weekend belonged to the Florida State Seminoles, whose loss to Georgia Tech dropped them from No. 9 to No. 17 in the AP Poll. With seconds remaining in regulation, Georgia Tech blocked a 56-yard Florida State field goal attempt and returned it 78 yards for a touchdown, and Bobby Dodd Stadium promptly erupted for the Yellow Jackets’ best win of the season.
Elsewhere around the college football landscape, Clemson looked the most impressive after handing Miami their worst loss in school history and No. 2 ranked Baylor received a scare as starting quarterback Seth Russell had to see a specialist for a fractured neck bone. The timetable for Russell has yet to be determined.
An unusual name leads the pack in college football in terms of average ticket prices on the secondary market for the top college football games of the weekend. The No. 21 ranked and undefeated Temple Owls (7-0) host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Halloween night at Lincoln Financial Field. For arguably the biggest game in the program’s history, Temple tickets currently have an average price of $316.25 with a get-in price of $169 according to TiqIQ.com. Hipmunk has Philadelphia flights, in addition to having hotels near Lincoln Financial Field on Hipmunk starting from $79 for fans to watch this weekend’s top game in person.
Halloween night will also include contests between the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators where the average ticket price is $174.35 with a get-in price of $60 for entrance into EverBank Field, which is the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The third most expensive game of the weekend is when the North Carolina State Wolfpack try and upset No. 3 ranked Clemson at Carter Finley Stadium with an average ticket price of $170.34 with a get-in price of $69.
