The Student Section isn’t much for dumping news on readers’ craniums. Instead, our managerial team decided long ago that our readership would be best served by giving you new, original, and — hopefully — insightful columns each and every day.
With that being said, we have decided to at least help make TSS your main stop for college sports news. Beginning today, we are going to provide a morning Pick Six post, which will drop links to the plethora of newsier stories which have happened in the last 24 hours. We hope you enjoy, or at the very least tolerate, the bevy of links about to be tossed your way.
This honors an important principle in both blogging and journalism at large: do what you do best, and link to the rest. Other writers and outlets are doing great work; we just want you to include TSS in your daily diet of college sports content.

College Football
Ryan Finley, quarterback for Boise State, has pleaded guilty to a few misdemeanor charges. College Football Talk has more on that matter, as well as what more discipline — if any — awaits Finley.
Eastern Michigan coach Chris Creighton has stated the obvious regarding Leonard Fournette. With the LSU running back now the official Heisman favorite according to Las Vegas, Creighton had a few interesting things to say during the MAC conference call.
TSS’ own Bart Doan dishes out some awards, as we are 33 percent of the way through the college football season. My favorite part of his column? He agrees with my assessment that Notre Dame running back C.J. Prosise is a legit Heisman contender.
Also at TSS, managing editor Matt Zemek discusses all of college football’s moving parts. It is a needed piece, as things are often more complicated than we try to let on.
Today’s U manages to use one good performance by Christian Hackenberg to shed light on how the Penn State quarterback is finding himself all over again. While I disagree, Hack-believers would probably enjoy the read.
Here’s an obligatory Tim Tebow, something to do with Florida, and police post… because the world will not rest until we anoint the former NFL-er and Heisman winner the walking embodiment of Gawd.
Extra Point
This is a few days old, but if you somehow missed Bradford Pearson’s amazing story about meeting with his kidnappers (yes, his kidnappers) a few years after being, well, kidnapped by them, it is simply tremendous journalism and storytelling.
College Basketball
College hoops (shooty-hoops, if you will) is near. Here is one of the many CBT ranking articles that will be pumped out in the days to follow. Few, if any, college basketball sites are as good at this as College Basketball Talk.
I really like watching Domantas Sabonis play basketball. If he ends up being half as good as his father, the world is in for a treat. Busting Brackets has a very positive article on the sophomore.
The North Carolina Tar Heels landed a four-star recruit. While this might not seem that newsworthy, because they are UNC and all, it is a good sign that Roy Williams can continue to recruit despite years of NCAA sanctions floating, but never materializing, around the program.
St. John’s raised lots of money to help battle and research cancer. Other programs do similar things each year, but it is good to see the Johnnies continuing to do such a great job of doing so while transitioning from Steve Lavin to Chris Mullin.
Near-breaking news: SMU has been banned from the postseason by those funny guys from the NCAA offices. SMU coach Larry Brown was also suspended nine games. Ugh.
And-One
I don’t care that this is an older piece. Flinder Boyd is a gosh-slam American treasure, and is one of the best writers — sports or otherwise — in the world. Here is his story on how Smush “bleeping” Parker saved the world. You’re welcome in advance.
