Which is the most overrated team in the Big Ten?

This week on The Student Section college football roundtable we are looking at the most overrated teams and yesterday we started with the ACC. TSS Associate Editors Bart Doan and Terry Johnson join staff writer Kevin Causey and special rotating guests in our weekly roundtable discussing all things college football. Earlier this off-season we looked at […]

David Shaw, Pac-12 Coaches, And The Search For Solid Ground

The central story of the Stanford Cardinal’s 2015 season can be framed in these terms: It is the attempt to regain something that was lost in 2014. Stanford had reached four straight BCS (now New Year’s Six) bowls, beginning in the 2010 season, but in 2014, the ride abruptly stopped. Stylistically, Stanford didn’t look that […]

Bloguin Top 50: No. 13 — Stanford

Stanford Cardinal 2014 Record: 8-5 (won bowl game) 1 Burning Question: Is Stanford ready to make small margins work in its favor again? It is in the nature of smashmouth, ball-control teams — think of Wisconsin basketball under Bo Ryan several seasons ago, before the past two years of dynamic offense — to play games […]

America East Conference Preview

Albany has had one of the best home court advantages in college basketball over the last two years, but not for the reason you might expect. The Great Danes I’m sure have a great crowd and passionate fan base, but their biggest advantage comes in the form of Albany getting to host the preliminary rounds […]

USC Trojans 2014 Record: 9-4 (beat Nebraska in Holiday Bowl) 1 Burning Question: Can the Trojans return to an elite level? Steve Sarkisian enters year number two as the head man at USC and hopes to improve on a 9-4 campaign during his first year. Sarkisian is fortunate to have been the successor to Lane […]

Writer Spotlight: Joe Manganiello On Syracuse Football

With the Student Section staff unveiling a new ACC football roundtable on Tuesday, it’s worth looking at a different corner of that conference, but it’s also a good time to step back and appreciate the larger community of Bloguin writers. What follows is a profile of a team, but it’s also a chance to showcase […]

Which is the most overrated team in the ACC?

On this week’s edition of The Student Section college football roundtable we predict the team from each conferences that the college football prognosticators have overrated. TSS Associate Editors Bart Doan and Terry Johnson join staff writer Kevin Causey and special rotating guests in our weekly roundtable discussing all things college football. Earlier this off-season we dove […]

Few coaches are going to face as much withering pressure next season as USC’s Steve Sarkisian. Anything less than a Pac-12 South title will be an unquestioned and absolute failure. The lack of a Pac-12 championship — with Oregon no longer having Marcus Mariota — would be a modest disappointment at the very least. Sark can’t squander the considerable talent he’s stockpiled in L.A.

In The Shadow Of Pete Carroll, It’s Deja Vu All Over Again At USC

After a great coach leaves any program or organization, it’s a very easy, understandable, and all-too-human inclination to want to replace that coach with someone from his circles, someone he taught or supervised in a time of prosperity. On some occasions, this inclination works out. Gary Moeller and especially Lloyd Carr succeeded Bo Schembechler at […]

Sparty, Throw! Connor Cook aims for accuracy and greater heights in 2015

After deciding to pass up the likelihood of being a first-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft, Connor Cook certainly comes into the new college football season with something to prove. With Cook, the talent is present. He has the arm strength, touch, and the ability to make most, if not all, of the throws […]

Bloguin Top 50: No. 15 — Michigan State

Michigan State Spartans 2014 Record: 11-2 (Won Cotton Bowl) 1 Burning Question: Can Michigan State take the next step and compete for a college football championship? Michigan State has won 24 games the last two seasons combined, two high profile bowl games over teams they were supposed to not defeat, and have thrust themselves into […]

7 Random Plays To Fire You Up For College Football: Volume 4

We’re getting closer to the start of college football season. In just three and half weeks, North Carolina and South Carolina will open the 2015-’16 campaign with a 6:00 kickoff. Until that day comes — and it won’t get here fast enough — I’ll continue to provide a list of seven plays to get you […]

LSU and Les Miles Remind Us: Coaches Should Not Hand Out Discipline

There’s a lot of ugliness in college sports, and the really dirty reality — the one which cuts through every fan base and is the hardest one to face in a mirror — is that no program is immune to appalling behavior or poor decision-making… because all of us as human beings are flawed. (Basically […]

No judgments here, just think about the question: If Arizona had not gotten smoked by Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl, would your opinion of the Pac-12 — in general or relative to the SEC (or both) — have changed? There is no empirically right or wrong answer here. Just do some thinking about the question and how you evaluate teams and conferences.

Bloguin Top 50: Number 16 — Boise State

Boise State Broncos 2014 Record: 11-2 (won the Fiesta Bowl) 1 Burning Question: Can Boise State go undefeated … and if so, what would be the CFB Playoff’s response? This is sort of like getting extra gin in your gin and tonic just because the bottle was nearly empty and the barkeep didn’t want to […]
