Oklahoma and Texas clash on Big Monday for early season Big 12 supremacy

The Big 12 has become a basketball conference that is stronger than just perennial power Kansas. Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Kansas State, and Iowa State have all proven in the last few years that they can play basketball too. With teams like that rising to the top of the college ranks, it makes for […]

Red hot St. John’s facing pivotal stretch in NYC/NJ

The St. John’s Red Storm are 11-1 and ranked #17 in the country, providing flash backs to the days of Lou Carnesecca and Big East battles at Madison Square Garden and in Queens. The end of 2014 and start of 2015 will provide quite a challenge for the Johnnies as they head into conference play, […]

Ranking coaching hires is like picking your reindeer

Follow TSS on Twitter @TheStudentSect Author @TheCoachBart I was watching the timeless holiday classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer last week when it struck me that Santa’s whole system needs an about face, and to bring in an HR guy at some point. He basically dismissed Rudolph’s chances of being on the sleigh team just […]

Monday should be a day of change at Michigan

Follow TSS On Twitter @TheStudentSect Author @TheCoachBart Like a gal walking into a room with a group of her friends knowing the guy she’s dating is cheating on her, it’s probably time to be honest. Monday’s the day for Michigan football. It’s better for everyone to move on. Interim athletic director Jim Hackett has already […]

Poll Dancing: Playoff Projections 7

College Basketball Preview: Potential Breakout Sophomores

With one and dones becoming such a prevalent part of major college basketball these days, we often forget there are a lot of elite recruits, and sometimes not so elite recruits, that blossom as sophomores to become one of the best players on their respective teams. This season should be no different, as there are […]

Arizona State was a step ahead of Notre Dame for most of a warm Saturday afternoon. Being inhabitants of the desert, the Sun Devils knew how to handle the heat when Notre Dame uncorked a 28-0 run and came close to pulling off an all-time comeback. Arizona State has often allowed big games to slip away over the years. The Sun Devils’ ability to stabilize themselves in the final 6:37 of Saturday’s game showed that they’re made of sterner stuff, a reality created in large part by head coach Todd Graham.

Don’t get riled up over the playoff committee yet … but some troubling trends exist

Follow TSS @TheStudentSect On Twitter @TheCoachBart Telling sports fans not to overreact or freak out is like telling water to stop being wet, but we’ll go ahead and do it anyway regarding the CFB Playoff rankings that came out last night. Don’t freak out. It doesn’t matter yet. It’s all still in front of us. […]

How Tom Crean has lost Indiana

Times are rocky in Bloomington, Indiana. Compounding what was already going to be a tough season on the court, the Indiana Hoosiers are working on an arrest record that could be approaching “Pacman” Jones territory by Christmas. This is terrible news for Tom Crean, who had already been falling out of favor for basketball reasons. […]
