Texas head coach Charlie Strong isn’t interested in creating a splash with his words, and with good reason. He just wants to put in the work needed to lift Texas back to the top of the Big 12… and all of college football. He’ll likely need more than a year to do so.

Getting blasted by TCU on Thanksgiving night put an ill-fitting cap on Charlie Strong’s first (regular) season as Texas’ head coach. The Longhorns came into the game riding a three-game winning streak built on a nasty defense and steady improvement from sophomore quarterback Tyrone Swoopes. This story is supposed to end with UT upsetting TCU […]

When the Wisconsin Badgers host the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday, a lot more than Paul Bunyan’s Axe will be at stake. Such is the transformed nature of this game, thanks mostly to the ability of Jerry Kill to lift the Gophers to an even higher level. Wisconsin expects — and is expected by pundits […]

Remember the 2011 college football season? It was atypical in that it provided a regular-season rematch in the BCS National Championship Game (Alabama-LSU in the Superdome), but it was a rather normal season in this respect: The TCU Horned Frogs won a conference championship. This represented normal business for head coach Gary Patterson and the […]

It’s rivalry week and there are a bunch of games where in-state rivals put it all on the line, but one that flies a bit under the radar is the rivalry in the Pacific Northwest. It’s called the Civil War, and the Oregon Ducks currently hold a 61-46-10 advantage and have won six straight in […]

Fantastic catch by Texas A&M’s Speedy Noil but it wasn’t enough for the Aggies to beat the LSU Tigers as they fell 23-17… Come for the Speedy Noil

Chase Fischer seems to be doing just fine after transferring from Wake Forest. He’s averaging 17.4 points per game and yesterday he caught fire hitting 9 three pointers in the first half of BYU’s rout of Chaminade. After it was all said and done Fischer was 10 of 13 from behind the arc and he […]

Christmas is — within the Christian tradition — a deeply holy day. Whether you are of a religious persuasion or not, you can appreciate that there’s something very sacred about that day, something which ought to make the day a time for simply “being,” not doing; for quiet, not the hustle and bustle of the […]

The College Football Playoff debate is the centerpiece of the 2014 season, but the Gang Of Five drama owns more prominence and centrality this week after Boise State and Marshall both cracked the top 25 in the College Football Playoff rankings. With Boise State sitting just one spot ahead of Marshall, this Saturday’s late game […]

The past few years, the Thanksgiving night slate of college football games (usually two, sometimes only one) has not electrified the country, blessedly allowing Americans to spend more time with their loved ones (if they weren’t watching NFL games, of course). This year, however, one of the two Thanksgiving throwdowns owns some noticeable College Football […]

Michigan was down a point to Villanova in the closing seconds. The Wolverines thought they had drawn up a game winning inbound play. It was great right up until JayVaughn Pinkston turned around and saved the day. That is a major contender for defensive play of the year already.
